Iron nanoparticles show promising antibacterial effects
Determination of Ferrous Oxide Nanoparticles Minimum Inhibitory Concentration against Local Virulent Bacterial Isolates.
Significant potential in UTI treatment
We investigated how iron oxide nanoparticles can combat bacterial infections in the urinary tract. During our study, we analyzed urine samples from elderly patients and identified various bacterial strains causing infections. By synthesizing iron oxide nanoparticles, we tested their effectiveness against these bacteria.

We found that these nanoparticles displayed strong antibacterial activity, particularly against gram-negative bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentration demonstrated significant results compared to controls, indicating their potential as a novel treatment option. However, results suggested that while effective, iron oxide nanoparticles’ advantages may not be uniform across all bacteria types.

Iron levels and infection risks
Increasing serum iron levels and their role in the risk of infectious diseases: a Mendelian randomization approach.
Moderate relevance to infection studies
We investigated how serum iron levels might influence the risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs) and other bacterial infections. Using a method called Mendelian randomization, we analyzed genetic data related to iron levels from various large studies.

Interestingly, our findings suggest that higher iron levels do not significantly increase the risk of most infections. However, we did find that elevated iron stores could be linked to an increased risk of bacterial infections.

Therefore, while iron supplementation appears generally safe, we recommend cautious use during bacterial infections or for individuals prone to them.

Ciprofloxacin-enhanced iron nanoparticle therapy
Fimbria targeting superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles enhance the antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity of ciprofloxacin against quinolone-resistant E. coli.
High relevance for UTI treatment
We explored the effectiveness of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) designed to enhance the delivery of ciprofloxacin against resistant E. coli in urinary tract infections.

Targeting the bacteria's fimbriae with mannoside-tagged nanoparticles significantly improved antibacterial activity, achieving up to 97.5% effectiveness.

We also noted impressive biofilm inhibition, confirming that this targeted approach potentially offers a promising alternative for tackling multidrug-resistant infections.

Good efficacy
The drug really works. It effectively raises iron levels; my haemoglobin increased from 103 to 121 and ferritin from 8 to 27 in about a month! Other preparations only raised haemoglobin, and I was frustrated with the ferritin levels. This iron caused no gastrointestinal side effects, apart from slightly darkened stools. However, after about three weeks of daily intake, I experienced an unpleasant sensation similar to abrupt pressure changes. I then switched to taking it every other day, as it seemed the dosage was too high for frequent use. It's essential to listen to your body when taking this drug.

Ferritin improvement
Good vitamins with convenient dosage, prescribed by the doctor for anaemia and iron deficiency. I take it in the evening, ensuring to avoid dairy products and coffee/tea during intake. After two months, my ferritin rose from 20 to 38. The endocrinologist advised continuing for three months. I have experienced some gastrointestinal issues, likely due to the high dosage of two capsules, but overall, this is an effective supplement.

Adverse effects
I will not drink any more! This iron was recommended by my endocrinologist. Previously, I took Solgar, Iron Chelation, which was much gentler on my digestive tract. The NOW iron caused stomach pain and discomfort near the liver. I recommend FERRITIN for ferritin increase and Solgar for direct iron supplementation, as it is easier on the stomach.

Gentle formulation
Good iron, very gentle on the digestive tract.

Effective yet harsh
The iron effectively resolved the deficiency. However, my mother's sensitive stomach did suffer from its effects; it was not very gentle on the gastrointestinal tract. Nevertheless, it fulfilled its purpose, and I confirm the quality. The capsules are a manageable size and have a neutral taste and smell. It's a decent supplement that helped close the deficit.
